World Cup 2014

So now another World Cup has come and gone. Well done to Germany, who were clearly the best side. Arguably it was one of the best World Cups of all time, with record numbers of goals and end-to-
end action. Germany beat Brazil 7-1, sending a whole nation into despair. Australia’s Tim
Cahill’s volley against the Dutch and Colombian James Rodriguez’s masterpiece of a strike
against Uruguay in the Maracana were other moments of individual brilliance that illuminated
the tournament. The England team suffered two defeats at the hands of Italy and Uruguay and drew with the “footballing superpower” of Costa Rica, coming back with their tail between their legs in humiliation.

In some ways, the World Cup is similar to what goes on in the Exam Room (admitted –
without the crowd, the facepaint, the cameras and the noise). You get one chance, one bite of the cherry
and it’s all over. Forever more, people will remember Germany as the winners.
No-one will remember England (or Scotland, Wales and Ireland for that matter). However, they will remember
Brazil for the wrong reasons, even though they had lost both their captain and their star
player. Likewise, exams are a one off experience, but the result will stay with you for a lifetime.
Therefore, it is essential that youngsters prepare properly for exams, especially with so many distractions around. In exams, like football, there is fine line between victory and defeat, success and failure and the difference is motivation, careful planning and the will to win. At Excel, we can help you achieve your full potential and achieve high grade which will open doors to your child’s future.

“Football is like life – it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication
and respect for authority.” Vince Lombardi
